The start of operations of the Chalco–Santa Martha Trolleybus has been delayed again, with no new official date established so far. The Secretary of Mobility of the State of Mexico reported that supervision and connection works with other systems are still in progress, preventing the service from being ready for operation.
The Chalco–Santa Martha Trolleybus is a crucial mobility project for the eastern part of the Valley of Mexico, as it will directly link the municipality of Chalco with Mexico City. With a modern elevated route, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time for users, which currently can take up to two hours for that journey. The fare is expected to remain in that range at the start of the service.
This system will accept the mobility card of Mexico City at most of its stations, facilitating connection with Line A of the Metro and Line 2 of the Cablebus. The stations that will initially be operational are Santa Martha, Eje 10, Avenida Cuauhtémoc, Puente Rojo, Puente Blanco, Parque Tejones, Oriente 50, José María Martínez, Amalinalco, and Chalco. For now, the stations Vicente Guerrero, Chalco Centro, Los Reyes, La Caldera, and Apolocalco will be pending and will be integrated once the corresponding works are completed.
Regarding the fare, although no official announcement has been made, an image circulated on social media shows a fare machine with the Integrated Mobility Card of Mexico City and a price marked at 9 pesos, in contrast to the 4 pesos currently charged for travel on the capital's trolleybuses. It is estimated that the complete journey can be made in just 35 minutes.
The complete route of the Chalco–Santa Martha Trolleybus consists of 15 stations, but in the first phase only 10 will be put into operation, as some structures at key terminals are still in the process of completion.
